EUROSCICOMM 2024: Internationa COALESCE Conference on the publics of Science Communication

Ana Serra y Carolina Moreno// On December 2 and 3, the Faculty of Philology, Translation, and Communication at the University of Valencia will host the international conference EUROSCICOMM 2024, which will examine the role of diverse audiences in science communication.

These sessions, organized by the ScienceFlows research group in collaboration with FECYT and Science for Change, will bring together academics specialised in science communication, as well as professionals from public and private institutions. The aim is to analyze the current state of science communication and define effective strategies to connect with audiences that have traditionally been distanced from it. This event, funded by the Generalitat Valenciana, takes place within the framework of the COALESCE project, which aims to establish a European observatory for science communication that will provide resources to enhance scientific communication before, during, and after crises

Access to the Conference programme

The event, which will take place at the Conference Hall of the Faculty of Philology, Translation, and Communication at the University of Valencia, will feature prominent international speakers. Claire Wilkinson, a professor and co-director of the Science Communication Unit at the University of West England in Bristol, will deliver the opening keynote address. Other participants include Annette Leßmöllmann, Chair of Science Communication at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, and Joseph Roche, researcher and professor at Trinity College Dublin.

COALESCE Workshop

During the conference, a workshop will be held as part of the activities under the COALESCE project. This workshop will be coordinated by Johana Magalhaes and Isabel Mendoza and aimed at identifying the needs of audiences that are most distanced from science in order to develop resources tailored to their demands.
